Current Wrestlers
We are so excited to work with you and support you in building this sport. Thank you for being trailblazers and leaders. You are influencing and impacting generations of girls to come and are truly making history.
Why SanctionPA?
Why is getting my school to add a girls wrestling team so important?
If you are on your school's boys teams, they may not be able to send you to girls tournaments or hold girls duals. Adding a team at your school helps provide you with more opportunities to compete, including in dual meets and tournaments against other girls. As you have more opportunities to compete and work towards your goals, it will also provide more opportunities for you to reap all the benefits of the sport, including potentially attending college and even getting recruited to continue your wrestling journey at the next level. (The current list of colleges offering women’s wrestling can be found here.)
Having an official team and sport helps legitimize all of the hard work you have put in. It’s time to be recognized for it.
Get Involved
As a female wrestler, your voice is the most important one in this initiative. If you are interested in getting involved to help get a program at your school, there are several things you can do:
-
Reach out to your school (coach, Athletic Director, Principal, etc.) about adding a girls team - Contacting your school can often be the best way to express your desire for a girls team. If you need ideas about what you could say in an email to your school administration, check out our Template Wrestler Email. This was written by a PA high school wrestler!
-
Recruit other girls to wrestle - Invite friends, share about girls wrestling online, or even use flyers to let girls know they can wrestle
-
“Like” Pennsylvania Women’s Wrestling on Facebook to stay up to date with the SanctionPA initiative as well as to hear about events, clinics, college opportunities, and to stay connected to other wrestlers
-
Make a video of support - Some girls have recorded videos about what wrestling means to them and why they want a girls' team at their school. Check out some of the videos girls from PA have made, and if you are inspired, consider making one and letting your voice be heard!
Please feel free to get in touch with us at sanctionpa@gmail.com any time if you have questions or if we can help work with you and your school.
